Data Protection Bill 2025: a readiness checklist for PR and campaign teams

Ghana’s draft Data Protection Bill 2025 deserves attention from every team that collects names, phone numbers, email addresses, photographs or audience data. For communicators, privacy compliance is not only a legal exercise; it shapes trust at every contact point.

Start by mapping where campaign data enters the organisation: event registrations, competitions, WhatsApp groups, media lists, surveys, newsletter forms and agency spreadsheets. Record the purpose for each collection, who can access it, how long it is kept and how a person can ask for correction or deletion.

Consent language should be specific and readable. A person registering for an event should not automatically be treated as agreeing to unrelated marketing. Agencies should document which party controls the data and what happens when a contract ends.
