Deleting a mistaken post may remove the evidence but not the screenshots. A corrections protocol helps teams act consistently under pressure.

First assess materiality. A minor typo may need a simple edit; an incorrect safety instruction, price, allegation or public-service notice needs a visible correction. Capture the original, note when it was posted and identify where it was repeated. Pause scheduled content that could make the response look careless.

Publish the corrected fact in plain language. State what was wrong and what is correct without burying the change. Where the original reached a large audience, use the same channel and consider a pinned update. Notify partners or journalists who may have repeated the claim.

Internally, document the source of the error, approval path and preventive action. The review should improve the system rather than search for a single person to blame. Speed matters, but a second unverified correction compounds the damage.

Editorial note: Create channel-specific examples before publication.
